What is Transpersonal Art Therapy?
Transpersonal Art Therapy uses a range of art materials to enable clients to work through their personal issues in a supportive and non-threatening manner. It encourages each person to draw on their own resources to gain personal insights and to grow in their own way.
Unlike traditional therapy, working with the materials can foster new insights without needing to discuss verbally the details of the situation. Art Therapy is applicable to a wide range of issues or problems. However, it can also be used to determine goals, to choose directions and to navigate changes in life.
Sessions can be one-on-one, small groups, or with organisational groups.
Working with clients in One-on-One sessions
As a therapist, I facilitate each client to provide opportunities to consider their situation toward achieving their goals regardless of how narrow or broad that may be. This may occur within one or over many sessions. Each session is designed in response to their development within each session and between sessions. In a supportive role, each client is enabled to express things that are often hard to express or talk about.
Each session is normally 1-1.5 hours and the pieces created are normally photographed and kept on file with the case notes.
Small Group Work
Groups are normally small (three or four to a dozen people) depending on the participants and the overall goals. Each group is crafted so that each session builds on the previous toward fulfilling the overall intention. A range of materials is incorporated within or across sessions to achieve that end.
I also enjoy working with other consultants to target the needs of the particular client group. Respect between members and rules of engagement are explicitly worked through with the clients.
Organisational or Community Group Workshops
Workshops are designed in conjunction with the organisations commissioning the program to best suit the needs of the proposed participants.
